ECPL (Thunderbird) Rules – 2011

2011 Playing Rules

As agreed by consensus of the Eastern Canadian Premier League members, the following rules are to be
adopted and utilized during the course of the 2011 playing season.

1. All games are to be 7 inning games for Double Headers (preferred game style). If required due
to park and season scheduling issues a 9 inning game will be allowed and able to be counted for
a double game. Ties are permitted.
a. Rev.1.1.09 – all nine innings to count for only one game played and one win
b. all first games of a DH are to be 7 innings. If a local curfew applies it will be
stated at Ground Rules, otherwise it will be two?7 inning games.

2. Re?entry rule allowed, rev.1.2.09 ? Starters may re?enter once, substitutes for starters once
replaced are permanently removed from that game.

3. MLB American League rules will govern play unless superseded by local ECPL rules

4. Designated Hitter (DH) and Extra Hitter (EH) are allowed in league play. All DH & EH must be
designated before the game on the line?up cards; you cannot add them during a game.

5. Designated Runner (DR) for the catcher is permitted when there is two out, either the last player
recorded out in the scorecard or a DR as designated on the line?up card before the game. Rev.
1.3.09 – DR can be used for pitchers as well with two outs.

6. No intentional contact, all players must slide at home plate.

7. Mercy Rule: Rev. 1.4.09 – 10 runs after 5 innings played

8. No pitching restrictions

9. Team rosters are flexible and can be added or deleted to during the course of the season

10. Age restriction: players can be up to 19 years old, but not turning 20 in the calendar year , Rev.
1.5.09 – 16U division player must be no older than 16 prior to May 1st of the calendar year
a. 18U division current US college and university attending students are ineligible
for league play

11. Discipline Rule: Any player or coach ejected from a game will automatically serve a one
game suspension in the following game (DH or not).

12. Gag Rule: players are under a gag rule for swearing; no swearing on the field of play

13. Ties are permitted

14. Home Teams for games are to be responsible for the following:
a. Official Score Keeping & Reporting Game Scores to the League Office
b. 4 Official ECPL D1?ECPL Game Balls per Home Game
c. Umpire Fees (as negotiated by the home team)
d. Field conditions and preparations prior to game time
