Hamilton Youngtimers’ Baseball Organization Rules 2012

1. Participants must be between 19 and 34 years of age (born between 1977 and 1992) in the year of competition. Proof of age is a driver=s license or OHIP card with a photo.

2. Games will be 9 innings with no new inning to start after 2½ hours. If less than 9 innings are to be played, the final inning must be declared by umpires before it starts. All play-off games are to be 9 innings.

3. A maximum of 5 runs per inning may be scored, although more than 5 may result from the last batter’s hit leaving the playing surface. The ball is dead once the fifth run has scored. This rule does not apply to the last inning or extra innings.

4. No pitcher will pitch more than 12 consecutive outs per game. No player may re-enter the game as a pitcher once he has left, except due to injury.

5. Professional rules of baseball apply to stealing bases. Obvious balks will be called. Technical balks are only called if a runner is put out, or in jeopardy of being put out by an illegal move.

6. Intentional body contact on the base paths is not allowed. Offending players will be ejected from the game and suspended pending a league hearing.

7. All players present shall be included in the batting order.

8. Unlimited substitutions are permitted on defense.

9. The catcher must be removed as a base runner and replaced with the last out when two outs or four runs have been registered

10. A new pitcher entering the game in the next inning may be replaced with the last out in order to warm up.

11. All players must wear their team sweaters and hats on the playing field.

12. Proper protective equipment is essential. Helmets with earflaps must be worn at the plate, and on the bases. Protective helmet must be worn by all catchers. Players must wear a protective cup at all times.

13. If there are not enough players on one team for a given game, players may be borrowed from another team in order to play the game.

14. Bunting is allowed. Intentional walks are only allowed in the play-offs

15. All other rules are covered in Baseball Canada=s Official Rules of Baseball. Intentional walks are illegal.

16. Players will inform their team reps of days when they are not available to play

17. No alcohol is permitted on park property as dictated by our City of Hamilton park permit

18. Players who smoke, must do so behind and beyond fences down the baselines. Smoking on the bench is forbidden.

19. Foul and abusive language is not permitted in this league. There is a zero tolerance rule; a player removed from a game for language, abuse of equipment, umpires or other players, may be subject to further suspension.
