Welcome to our website!
The Hamilton Baseball Umpires Association is the oldest umpire association in Canada! Our records date all the way back to 1906. Since then, many great umpires have come through the umpiring ranks here in Hamilton. Hamilton has been noted to have some of the best umpires in the province!
We are very proud of and take pride to promote our association members. We currently have three HBUA members currently umpiring professionally in MiLB: Chris Marco, Steven Jaschinski, and Matt Blackborow! All of us are very proud of the three of you wish you on your continued success to be a MLB umpire!
The HBUA umpires “Rep” baseball within the city boundaries of the City of Hamilton. This includes Rookie Ball to Junior. In addition, we work High School, Old Timers and the Golden Horseshoe Baseball League. Overall, the HBUA umpires close to 60 teams over the season.
The HBUA has been proud to be part of several special events over the years, including the Steel City Midget Tournament, the CANUSA Games, the International Children’s Games, the Canadian National Old Timers Championships, just to name a few! This doesn’t include the many tournaments run by local associations throughout Hamilton each and every year. The HBUA also continues to host the Baseball Ontario U16 AAA Provincial Championships. 2019 will be the 14th year in a row that we have hosted this tournament! We have a great reputation of hosting this tournament every Labour Day Weekend! Who would have through that umpires can run a tournament?
With the 2019 season fast approaching we continue to promote training of umpire’s in Hamilton, whether it is with the Canadian Baseball Umpire Camps (CBUC) programs or our own house league clinics. This year will be no different. We had several members attend the CBUC clinic in October and February. In March/April the HDBA is running special umpire clinics. These clinics are designed for the beginner and will be great for anyone wanting to get involved in umpiring. On April 13th the HBUA will be hosting Baseball Ontario Level 1 and 2 certification clinics at Bishop Tonnos High School. On May 25th the HBUA will be hosting a House League Clinic at Mahoney Park. Details on all these events can be found on our website!
Speaking of our website, lots of work has gone into upgrading our website. Lots of additional training information is available to our members through educational videos and memos. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well!
As you can probably see, the HBUA takes great pride in umpire development. Anchored by a very strong mentor program, our association assists local house leagues and hosts beginner-level clinics in addition to first hand observation during house league games. Umpires interested in making the jump to more competitive levels are paired with senior officials to ease the transition into faster, better baseball. The HBUA mentor program has been very successful over the years and has produced some very good up and coming umpires. Without these mentors the HBUA wouldn’t be where we they are today!
Looking forward to seeing you on the diamond in 2019!
